Paramus Rotary Club Meeting of Thursday May 3, 2018 Do you know that since 2017, Habitat for Humanity has become a partner of Rotary International? More than 1 billion people around the world live in inadequate housing according to the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements. Through a partnership between Rotary and Habitat for Humanity, more will have access to safe and affordable housing across the globe. Today we were visited by Rebecca Sanger and David Stwart from our local Habitat For Humanity, a brand new ReStore that is now open in Westwood NJ. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit organization working in nearly 1400 communities across the United Stated and in approximately 70 countries around the world. There vision is one of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward that vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home. Since Habitat for Humanity Bergen County started in 1994 they offered housing or critical home repairs to more than 150 families especially after hurricane Sandy. They are currently building 4 housing units in Washington Township, of which 2 are for seniors and 2 are for veterans! All of the work is either donated by companies or it is volunteer work to get all the projects completed. Funding comes from a newer concept, the ReStore! It is a thrift-like store that opened in August of 2017 and it is located in Westwood in the old Marty's shoe store. There are numerous volunteer, donation and shopping opportunities that are available as a result of this new location. Since this location is brane new they are in need of volunteers and they hope that members of the Paramus Rotary will see it as an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while also socializing with other Bergen County residents. Information about donations to the ReStore will be beneficial to any seniors who may be downsizing their homes or have items that they may want to donate. And the shopping opportunities are always beneficial for those who are looking for great items at even better prices. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Paramus Rotary Club spent a Night at the Races at the Meadowlands Racing and Entertainment Center. There were twenty-seven participants including Rotarians with their family and friends. The ladies were louder than the gentlemen and maybe that’s why they won big. Nobody knows how much they won, but when you have a lot of laughter, you have already won the game!!!
