This week's speaker was Jim Harp, a Rotarian from Denville. He came to speak to us about Virtual Reality and how it can be used in Rotary. Virtual reality connects with people on a visceral, personal level in a way that words simply can’t, Jim stated. There is a Rotary VR app that can be downloaded and used to immerse people in some of Rotary's most meaningful work that may otherwise not be familiar with!
There are currently 3 films that are used for this virtual experience. They are the following and they can be seen at Virtual Reality | Rotary International:
1) Two Drops of Patience
Travel with Patience Asiimwe and her fellow Rotaractors to a remote region of Uganda to vaccinate children who otherwise would be missed. See how far Patience will go to make sure every child in her country is protected from polio.
2) One Small Act
See the powerful impact that small acts of kindness can have on the life of one little girl whose world has been torn apart by conflict.
3) I Dream of An Empty Ward
Follow Alokita, one of the last children in India to be paralyzed by polio, as she takes her first steps in 11 years. Actress and Rotary polio ambassador Archie Panjabi introduces the film.
By combining the power of Rotary's virtual reality app with a VR viewer and smartphone, one can immerse themselves in some of Rotary's most meaningful work. To experience virtual reality, simply download the Rotary VR App to your smartphone. For optimal viewing, use a VR viewer and noise canceling headphones to immerse yourself in any of Rotary's VR films.

Our Rotary District 7490 has partnered with the Marine Corps League in Oakland to collect warm winter socks and winter coats for homeless veterans. Our District Governor had asked each club to donate 5 packages of warm socks along with some winter coats. As it can be seen from the photos below, we surpassed the request of our Governor!
Pictured are (L-R) District Co-Secretary Forest Elliot, Marine Corps League representative Michael Volpe, club past president Diane Vasile Falcone, and current club president Dawn Feorenzo.
