Laura Beausoleil, former Hunger Action Coordinator - Community Food Bank of NJ
Nationwide 41.2 million people don't know if they are eating tonight - one which could be your neighbor. (Go to mapthemealgap.com for more hunger facts.) These are some of the tough choices that are made - deciding between food and other necessities. 77% choose between utilities and food. 73% choose between medicine and food. 70% choose between housing and food. 75% often purchase inexpensive and unhealthy food to cope.
The Community Food Bank provides nutritious meals and offers a variety of programs to help solve hunger. They offer child feeding programs, job training programs as well as many others like a mobile pantry and acting as a hub during state of emergencies. Every $1 donated provides 3 meals for people in need. 95% of these donations directly supports hunger-fighting programs. The other 5% goes towards administrative and fundraising. The FoodBank is always looking for volunteers. Please go to http://CFBNJ.ORG to learn how you can help.
Rotary members donated $205 by generously handing over the 50/50 winnings and Happy Dollars. Many members also donated bags of food for Laura to bring back to the FoodBank.
