Paramus Rotary Club Meeting of Thursday, November 9, 2017 Our speaker last week was our very own Rotarian Lisa Vartanian! She spoke to us about Music Education and the Arts at Paramus High School. The Paramus school district has been recognized to be among the Best Communities in the nation for music education. The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. Paramus High School has been designation a Model School in the Arts.The definition of a model is a school that scored in the top 10% of the New Jersey Arts Education Census Project and a school that is teaching all four arts disciplines: dance, music, theatre and the visual arts. Having been designated a Model School PHS will have representatives from other schools to visit them and observe them and will make presentations at state meetings and conferences Most recently Paramus Public Schools will be featured on "Classroom Close Up, NJ" Classroom Close-up NJ is a half-hour television program that features innovative projects in New Jersey public schools. The 14-time Emmy® award-winning show is in its 23rd season and airs on NJTV every Sunday at 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show is the only television program in the country devoted to featuring the positive things happening in public schools. ************ Weekly Announcements! ~ Chip announced the new Nominees for the next Board. Please make sure you review the list and notify of any objections. ~ Lloyd reminded us that the next fireside chat is Nov 16th. Please make sure you fill out your information on the sheets going around! ~ Peter Kantzilieris let everyone know about a lifting competition Fundraiser to raise money for Austin's Heroes on November 11th. Austin is a 9 year old boy who was recently diagnosed with a type of bone cancer and the family needs to raise money for medical expenses. Look out for flyers for more information! ~ Diane Vasile-Falcone announced that the popular Poker Night will be held at the Women's Club on November 17th. She also reminded us that the Tricky Tray is set for February 11th and that she has already shopping. She is asking anyone who may have baskets left over after the holidays to please donate them to this event! ~ New sign up sheets for Rotary Greeter were sent out so make sure you get your name on that list! ~ Let's not forget the Blood Drive that is all set to go on December 20th! ~ Board Meeting has been moved to November 20th at Domani Restaurant in Hillsdale. ********** |
