~ Our speaker for the May 13, 2021, meeting was fellow Rotarian and Director of the Paramus Public Library, Mr.  Len LoPinto.

Mr LoPinto informed attendees that the New Jersey Legislature has approved a $507,000 grant for the Paramus Library to help fund a 1,958 square foot addition the the Children's and Young Adult area of the main library!

This new addition will allow the library to extend programming and educational opportunities for children and young adults, and will provide a group study area and extra seating. It will also free up the current meeting room and allow space for more ESL classes, technology training, adult book discussions and crafts, and community and civic meetings.

The Library is seeking charitable donations from Paramus residents to offset the cost of the addition at the main library to accommodate all of these wonderful enhancements. When coupled with the $507,000 grant and the sale of bonds, these monies will defray the cost of this much needed, new addition.

For information, please contact Len LoPinto at director@paramus.bccls.org.

Irma Lang's Road to US Citizenship

In September 2013, Paramus Rotarians Lois Horowitz (trip organizer), Val and Anna Kipiniak, and Ed Lang enjoyed a marvelous trip to Poland with the Rotary Friendship Exchange program.

While boarding their flight back to the USA, Ed Lang noticed a beautiful young lady seated in the window seat of his row -- with an empty middle seat.  During the eight-hour flight, the two became acquainted. The beautiful lady’s name was Irma. She is from the country of Georgia and was traveling to Long Island to visit a friend; it was her first trip to the USA.

Ever the gentleman, Ed offered to show Irma around New York. The two met up about three days later and toured the City.  Irma went back home to Georgia, but returned in December of 2015 to visit her girlfriend in Long Island once again. Ed and Irma got to spend some more time together on that trip, and visited each other in their respective counties a couple of times thereafter.

Ed and Irma were married in the New Jersey Botanical Gardens (aka Skyland's Manor) in Ringwood, NJ in June of 2016.  Fellow Paramus Rotarian and dear friend Fred Rohdieck took many beautiful pictures at the wedding ceremony.

Since 2016, Irma has been working towards many goals, including obtaining her USA Citizenship.

Irma had her interview to become a US Citizen last week. After her interview, she was advised that she could take her Oath of Allegiance that very same day -- this is quite rare as there is normally a one to two month period in between the two!

Irma was carrying a small American flag when she met Ed outside after her interview. Ed thought the flag was a memento for passing the interview. When Irma advised him that she just became a US Citizen, they were both elated and felt so blessed.

Irma is very thankful for her US Citizenship and is looking forward to making the most of it!
