Paramus Rotary Club Meeting of Thursday, November 2, 2017 Our guest speaker last week was Christine Gillespie, Dean of Bergen Community College's Department Continuing Education, Corporate and Public Sector Training. Rotary made a difference in her life. Family friends were Rotarians and they sponsored her as International Exchange Student. She became a teacher in secondary high school, traveled by working for a logistics company (PG&E) and then back to a career in Community College Bergen Community College was founded in 1965 to satisfy the region’s need for a convenient, affordable and comprehensive higher education destination; Bergen Community College now enrolls nearly 17,000 students in its academic degree programs. The College’s three sites in Paramus (main campus), Hackensack (Ciarco Learning Center) and Lyndhurst (Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands) serve more than 32,000 students in degree, continuing education and adult education programs. It is the top producing school of 2 year graduates. Her goal is to have more engagement between the community and the school. Anyone can go and visit anytime to see many of its programs such as the Simulation Center and their theater. Please make sure you fill out your information on the sheets going around! ~ Peter Kantzilieris let everyone know about a lifting competition Fundraiser to raise money for Austin's Heroes on November 11th. Austin is a 9 year old boy who was recently diagnosed with a type of bone cancer and the family needs to raise money for medical expenses. Look out for flyers for more information! ~ Diane Vasile-Falcone announced that the popular Poker Night will be held at the Women's Club on November 17th. She also reminded us that the Tricky Tray is set for February 11th and that she has already shopping. She is asking anyone who may have baskets left over after the holidays to please donate them to this event! ~ Board Meeting has been moved to November 20th at Domani Restaurant in Hillsdale. ********** |
