Paramus Rotary Club Meeting of Thursday, June 22, 2017
Representing Rotary District 7490 Lois Horowitz presented 2015-2016 Paramus Rotary Club President Jay Leone with the “District Governor’s Citation” in recognition of Jay’s “Service Above Self” contribution as 2016-2017 Rotary District Sergeant-at-Arms.
Paramus Rotary Club Food Drive
In an example of "Rotary...Service Above Self" the Paramus Rotary Club held what has become an annual event - Paramus Rotary Club Food Drive to Benefit the Rotary Military Family Assistance Center & Paramus Veterans Food Bank.
This event organized by Club Rotarian Lois Horowitz was held on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at the ShopRite of Paramus. Set up began at the supermarket's front entrance at 7:30am and the last donation was collected at 5:00pm.
As shoppers entered the Paramus ShopRite they were handed a double sided letter that on one side explained the event and where the food donations were going...and listed a "check list" of needed items.
Thank you to event chair Lois Horowitz and her co-chairs Rich Siniscalchi and Carol Macina and to the everyone who helped -  Rotarians and family members, Paramus students, volunteers from the Paramus Veterans Center, drivers from Rotary District (including District Governor Steve Jarahian),  drivers from the Military Veterans Center. In total there were 26 volunteers making this event surpass, by far, the food drive event of last year.
A total of 60 shopping carts filled with food and staples were collected amounting to a total value of $26,792.00. Added to last year’s food drive food and staples the total value to date is $39,432.00.
Our guest speaker today was A.J. Luna County of Bergen Department of Human Services Division of Veterans Services. He was accompanied by two of his associates Susan Krause and David Lehman. A.J. thanked the Paramus Rotary Club for their contributions from this past weekend’s food drive. A.J. also shared the many needs of our area veterans and how the Division of Veterans Services is assisting them.
Information we didn’t know – Bergen County has the largest number of Veterans in all of New Jersey.
It's been my pleasure to serve as the Paramus Rotary Club's 2016-2017 Secretary and Radian Editor - Fred Rohdieck
